API Fleet Distribution Controls

Giving Central Agents Greater Authority Over Their Listings

Charter Index has launched enhanced API controls that put central agents firmly in command of how their fleets are distributed across the industry. These new features recognise the vital role central agents play in managing yacht availability and ensure they maintain full authority over their listing distribution.

Controlling Your Fleet Distribution

Central agents can now choose exactly how their fleet data is shared through Charter Index’s API network. For each API request, you have two clear options:

Open Distribution – Your fleet remains available to all authorised API users, maximising visibility across the broker network whilst maintaining Charter Index’s quality standards. This approach ensures your yachts reach the widest possible audience of professional brokers, generating more enquiries and charter opportunities.

Restricted Distribution – Whilst you retain the ability to limit which API users can access your fleet data, this approach may reduce your market exposure and limit the number of qualified brokers promoting your yachts to potential charterers. Restricting distribution can impact the overall value proposition of Charter Index’s API service to the broker community.

We recommend that central agents carefully consider the commercial implications before restricting fleet access. Open distribution has historically generated the strongest lead flow and broadest market coverage for our central agency partners.

Understanding the Request Timelines

We’ve built in two important timeframes to keep the authorisation process efficient:

30-Day Decision Window for Restricted Requests When an API user requests access to your restricted fleet, you have 30 days to review and respond. This gives you adequate time to assess the request, verify the broker’s credentials, and make an informed decision without feeling rushed. If you haven’t accepted or declined the request within 30 days, it expires and the brokerage can submit a new request for your consideration.

12-Month Reset on Rejected Requests If you decline an API user’s request to access your fleet, that decision stands for 12 months. This prevents repeated requests from the same party and respects your commercial judgement. After 12 months, the brokerage can submit a fresh request to access your fleet if they wish to try again.

Why These Controls Matter

Central agents invest significant resources in building and maintaining their yacht portfolios. These distribution controls ensure that investment is protected whilst still leveraging Charter Index’s extensive broker network. You decide who represents your fleet, when, and under what circumstances.

For API users – the professional brokers who rely on Charter Index data – this transparency creates clearer expectations. They understand exactly which fleets they can access and can plan their client services accordingly.’
